Malaysia Is Finally Getting a Pokemon Center!

30 June 2026

It's happening. After years of watching Singapore get all the fun, Malaysia is getting its very own official Pokemon Center pop-up store, and it's opening right in Kuala Lumpur this September.

The store will be at Ombak KLCC, a brand-new retail mall within the KLCC precinct, open from September 12 all the way to December 31, 2026. That's four months of official Pokemon merchandise, right here on home turf.

What's Inside the Pokemon Center Pop-Up

The store will carry official Pokemon Center Original merchandise, trading cards, plush toys, and the latest releases, including items sourced directly from Japan. On top of that, there's a dedicated lineup of 30th anniversary products, exclusive collectibles, and limited-edition releases you won't find at your average retail store. A gaming experience booth is also being set up in collaboration with Nintendo.

The store is also doing something pretty cool with its layout: rotating themes. Over the four months, the store will cycle through Pikachu, Fire-Types, Grass-Types, and Water-Types. Each rotation brings a different feel to the floor and presumably a different merch focus. Multiple visits? Absolutely justified.

Worth noting: The Pokemon Company hasn't revealed what its exclusive merch will look like just yet. More details are expected closer to the opening date, so stay tuned.

  • Location: Ombak KLCC, Kuala Lumpur
  • Dates: September 12 – December 31
  • What to Expect: Japan-exclusive plushies, 30th-anniversary merchandise, and the first official Nintendo Pop-Up Store in Malaysia featuring Mario and friends.

The PokéXciting! Celebrations at KLCC Park

The pop-up store is just one part of a much bigger party. Malaysia is the first stop in The Pokemon Company's PokéXciting! campaign across Asia, kicking off with a two-day celebration at KLCC Park on September 12 and 13.

There will be live stage shows, performances, and a Pokemon drone show with the Petronas Twin Towers lit up in the background. Admission is free, no tickets needed. A special Turquoise PokéXciting! Pikachu has been created for the Kuala Lumpur leg of the campaign, appearing during the stage events, and Pokemon GO players can catch it in-app during the event period too.

After KL, the PokéXciting! campaign heads to Taipei in October, Singapore in November, Manila in January 2027, and Bangkok in February 2027. Malaysia gets it first.

Pokemon RUN 30 and the TCG Tournament

If you're keen to do more than just shop, November has two things lined up. The Pokemon RUN 30: Malaysia Edition takes place on November 21 and 22, with themed checkpoints and a special runner's kit that includes a Uniqlo T-shirt, along with other goodies and exclusive finisher medals.

That same weekend, the Pokemon TCG Premier Ball League tournament is happening at the KLCC Convention Centre. Spectators are welcome, so even if you're not competing, it's worth going down to watch and scope out the pop-up store while you're at it. For TCG players building toward a tournament run, this is a good one to mark.

Could Malaysia Get a Permanent Pokemon Center?

Here's where it gets interesting. At the press conference, The Pokemon Company's corporate officer Susumu Fukunaga reportedly hinted that Malaysia could get a permanent Pokemon Center if the pop-up performs well.

Conclusion

Whether you're going for the merchandise, the limited Japan exclusives, the TCG products, or just to be part of the first-ever Pokemon Center experience in Malaysia, Ombak KLCC. September 12. Don't miss it.
